Prawns Fry

This is one super spicy recipe loved and relished by my whole family and extended  family...a friend's mother who hails from Nellore, Andhra Pradesh (people of that region eat notoriously spicy food!) taught this years back and I have been dishing it up ever since ...very few simple ingredients but great flavour ...

Cleaned prawns-250 gms
Onion-1 big, finely chopped
Tomato -1 medium, finely chopped
Green chillies-4, slit
Ginger- Garlic paste- 1 tsp
Cumin-1/2 tsp
Cinnamon- 1" stick
Turmeric powder-1/2 tsp
Red chilli powder-2 tsp ( more or less as per your taste)
Oil- 2 tbsp

  1. Mix prawns, a pinch of turmeric powder, 1/2 tsp salt and 1 tsp of oil in a thick bottom pot and cook on medium flame for 5 to 7 minutes ( do not add water, prawns releases enough water) and keep it aside
  2. Take oil in a pan, add cumin, cinnamon, cloves and cardamom and sauté for few seconds
  3. Now add onions and green chillies and sauté until onions are translucent ( add a pinch of salt at this point, it cooks onions faster)
  4. Now add ginger garlic paste and sauté till the raw smell goes off
  5. Now add tomatoes, turmeric powder and salt and cook until tomatoes are mushy and oil separates
  6. Add the cooked prawns and fry for minute, then finally add red chilli powder and fry on low flame for 3 to 5 minutes. Serve with hot rice or as a side dish with rice and dal.

  1. droolworthy prawns fry.
